The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey team scored three goals in the last four minutes of the third period to defeat Proctor Academy, 3-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Proctor got on the board first when Alexis Fagan took a wrist shot from the slot for a 1-0 lead at 5:20 in the first period. The squads battled for the remainder of the period, each with quality chances but the Zebras went into the first intermission down a goal.
In the second period, MX fell flat and gave up several key opportunities to Proctor but goaltender Katie Lovell made some impressive saves to keep the margin at one. In the third, the Zebras came out with some fire and junior Mary Demoulas ripped a wrist shot from the point to knot the game at one. Just over a minute later, Middlesex took the lead as Caelin Flaherty found the back of the net with a slap shot from the point off an assist by Madeline Coleman. Proctor pulled the goalie for the remaining minute of the game but the Zebras chipped the puck out the zone and Jac White scored the empty netter to ensure the victory.
The Zebras take the ice again on Friday, December 12 at Rivers to open ISL competition.
