Zebras Fall to Governor's, 2-0

10/8/2014 7:03:00 PM

The Zebras welcomed ISL opponent The Governor's Academy to Middlesex.  In the face of several injuries, the Zebras knew the game would be challenging as they faced an undefeated Govs squad showcasing some terrific young talent.  Fierce and ready, the Zebras executed the game plan with the help of Senior Charlotte Livingston and new players such as ninth grader Siobhan Morrissey, who played in her first Middlesex career game.

The defensive unit played fearlessly with Brenna Chitkara (playing in the defensive corner unit for the first time) earning a defensive save and Emma Fehnel (also earning a defensive save) anchoring the defensive unit for a full 60 minutes.  Sage Nye was relentless in keeping the Govs offense at bay while Kat French added several key transition plays.  After a first half battle, Govs ended the 0-0 tie with a goal three minutes into the first half on a textbook corner.  The same player scored again six minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.

The Zebras nearly capitalized on a breakaway in the second half, but couldn't finish the play.  While the Middlesex team was unsatisfied with a loss, they were proud of their defensive work in this game, particularly a 96.9% defensive corner save percentage.  Goalie Olson was outstanding, turning away 20 shots on the day.
