Football Falls to Groton

10/18/2014 8:21:00 PM

Middlesex-Groton football game introduced a different feel from the first three games, as the emphasis shifted from defense to offense, with 63 points being scored.  The scoring started right away as Groton drove the ball down the field on their opening possession to take a 6-0 lead.

Middlesex answered on their first drive, scoring on a 14 yard run by tailback James Burr '15. The kick was good by Jack Lyne '16 and MX took the lead 7-6.  Later in the first quarter Groton scored again to reclaim the lead 12-7.  Groton would extend their lead to 24-7 by halftime.

Middlesex cut into Groton's lead early in the third quarter when wide receiver John Schuster '15 hauled in a 19 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Dorsey '16 and with the PAT MX was back into the game at 24-14. Although the MX offense would score twice in the fourth quarter, on a 2-yard run by running back George Morris '15 and a 27 yard pass from Dorsey to wide receiver Hamza Usman '15, Middlesex could get no closer than a 10 point deficit with a final score of 37-26.

On the day, the Zebras passing game dominated the statistics with quarterback Austin Dorsey throwing for 279 yards, with John Schuster (145 yards) and Hamza Usman (126 yards) leading in receiving yardage.  Middlesex will host Roxbury Latin for Parent's Weekend next Saturday at 2:15.
