Field Hockey Tops Groton, 4-1

10/11/2014 9:16:00 PM

It was a tale of two halves for the Middlesex Zebras as they hosted Groton on the brink of a long weekend.  An aggressive Groton team immediately pressured Middlesex, but goalie Leah Olson and the defensive unit turned away several Groton attempts in the circle.  As the half progressed, much of the play was between the 25 yard lines as both teams fought for possession.  With just 19 seconds remaining in the half, Groton broke through the Middlesex defense and notched the first goal of the game.

Determined to redeem themselves, the Zebras came out firing in the second half.  Within four minutes, Middlesex earned their first corner of the game.  In a textbook redirection by Mills, the Zebras were brought to life.  In less than two minutes, the offense brought the ball back in the circle and earned a penalty stroke.  Fehnel scored the go-ahead goal on the stroke to continue the momentum.  Middlesex went on to score two more goals with the help of the Herring sisters, and Olson made a heroic save on a Groton penalty stroke to preserve the 4-1 win.
