The girls' varsity ice hockey team picked up their fourth straight win in a row over Groton on Wednesday afternoon in Concord, MA.  The team turned the momentum of the game in their favor halfway through the first period and never looked back en route to a 6-0 victory.

Maddie Winslow '14 tallied the first goal of the afternoon (assisted by Leah Olson '15)  6:06 into play with Cici Frattasio '14 lighting up the score board a short time later (assisted by Winslow). Middlesex outshot their opponent 12-1 as they entered the locker room with a two-goal lead.

Frattasio knotted the lone goal in the second to give Middlesex a little more breathing room with Sarah Tabeek '14 and Olson assisting on the effort. Christina Cleroux '14 turned away three shots to keep the Zebras on top.

Middlesex continued to work hard in the third and final stanza of the game and as a result were rewarded with three more goals.  Halfway through the period, Caelin Flaherty '17 received a pass from Tabeek at the point and riffled her shot on the ice where Frattasio was waiting in front for the tip in. Minutes later, Tabeek scored on the penalty kill after Winslow tore down the ice on a breakaway and left the rebound out in front for the fifth goal of the afternoon. Winslow closed out the scoring for the evening on the power-play with Frattasio and Flaherty adding the assists.

Katie Lovell '16 turned away two shots for Middlesex to preserve the shutout. Brooke Gary '14, Mary Demoulas '16, Brenna Chitkara '17, Leah Olson '15 and Flaherty were solid on the Zebras' offensive blue line to keep Groton's scoring opportunities to a minimum.

The team is looking forward to hosting Hebron Academy on Friday afternoon at 5:30pm.
