The girls' varsity ice hockey team went on a second period scoring spree to defeat the Holderness School on Friday afternoon in Pratt Arena. The Zebras now improve to 5-5-1 on the season and will look to continue their winning ways when they face Thayer at home on Saturday, January 24 at 3:00pm.
After a scoreless first period, Maddie Winslow '14 tallied her first of three goals 52 seconds into the second on the penalty kill. With the puck deep in the Zebras' defensive end, defenseman Leah Olson '15 found Cici Frattasio '14 in the neutral zone who skated the puck into the Bulls' offensive territory. After drawing her defender to the outside, Frattasio executed a perfectly timed pass to Winslow off the left post to take the 1-0 lead. Â Eleven minutes later, the dynamic duo of Frattasio and Winslow struck again when Winslow converted on yet another feed from Frattasio. Winslow's third goal of the game occurred just under a minute later, with Frattasio once again contributing the assist. Â
Although the Zebras controlled much of the third period, they were unable to add anymore points to the scoreboard. Â Christina Cleroux had a 12-save performance to preserve the shutout, while Mary Demoulas '16, Brooke Gary '14, Leah Olson and Calein Flaherty '17 were rock solid on defense for Middlesex.
