Determination and teamwork led to the first ISL victory for the Middlesex girls' varsity field hockey team.
The Zebras came out a bit slow against perennial powerhouse St. Mark's. Much of the first 15 minutes was played in the Zebra's defensive end; however, the Lions only posted one shot as the defensive unit protected Olson '15 in the net. Middlesex capitalized on their first opportunity with
7:54 remaining in the half when C. Mills '15 knocked the ball past the St. Mark's keeper.
Determined to continue pressuring the Lions, Middlesex stepped onto the field after halftime and scored just 55 seconds later to take a 2-0 lead. Â Maintaining their rhythm, Middlesex continued to pressure the Lions defense and tipped in a beautiful redirection at
22:05. Â St. Mark's stepped up the intensity and tested the Zebra defensive unit, but Doherty '15, Fehnel '16, Beeko '14 and Fiore '14 were relentless in the circle. Â Inspired by the stellar defensive play, the Middlesex offensive unit notched two more goals in the final six minutes to seal the win.Â
The Zebras made the most out of their 8 shots on goal and Olson posted 10 saves in the net. Â The Zebras look forward to hosting St. Paul's at home on
Wednesday, September 25. Â Â
