The Middlesex boys' varsity lacrosse team traveled to West Roxbury, MA to take on an athletic and gritty team who on paper looked as though they might have a better chance of winning. Our boys refused to even think along those lines however, and ultimately edged their opponents 9-8 . It was a great high school lacrosse game that was won in the middle of the field and through tough ground ball play.
RL went on the board first with Middlesex quickly responding with two goals of our own. RL tied it by the end of the first Q. We went down by one before getting two more tallies before going into halftime ahead 4-3. It was clear this game was going to go down to the wire with each team playing gutsy defense and taking advantage of any miscues by the opposition.
In the second half, RL quickly put the ball away two more times to take the one goal lead. We then tied it up on a nice man up look from Muse to Lucchese. Again, RL pushed ahead by two (7-5) before Howe was able to tuck one in on a nifty feed from Lucchese.
Going into the fourth period down by one, the boys seemed confident that this game was still theirs. Howe and Muse notched their third and second goals respectively to go ahead again by one. One of RL's cagey attackman made a nice play, thus knotting the game at eight. The ball went up and down the field with opportunities for both teams before Lucchese found Howe for the eventual winner with 2:41 left in the game.
While every player played his part in this win, Nick Bain had an outstanding day in the cage and preserved the win for Middlesex. BB&N is next on the schedule in front of the Alumni day crowd on Saturday, May 11.
