Middlesex Halted by Governor's 8-4

On Wednesday, May 23 the boys’ varsity lacrosse team hosted Governor’s Academy for their final home game of the season. It was another great game between the two programs but it was the visiting team who ultimately walked away with the hard-fought victory.

In the first period, both teams battled hard for ground balls in the middle of the field and traded good offensive opportunities.  Both goalies and defenses were strong. Gov’s made some fast moves to the goal in the second quarter and scored three nice goals, leaving us down 4-0 at the half.

Entering the third quarter, the boys still had faith that they could turn the tides of the game in their favor.   We went down 5-0 early in the period until our offense finally got some good chances.  With 6:00 minutes left in the third quarter Sean Pensavalle finally got us on the board with Michael Howe and James Burr quickly following before the end of the period.

Going into the final stretch, Sam Carlin took the opening faceoff and went to the jar and scored making it 5-4.  However, Gov's did eventually come back with a couple of nice scores and an empty netter as we pushed out to double the ball.

The game ended 4-8, which was really disappointing to the boys but they left a tremendous effort on the field.  The team will play their last game of the season when they travel to Newport, RI to face ISL rival St. George’s on Saturday, May 25.
