Girls' Varsity Tennis Advances to New England Semi Finals

5/20/2013 11:31:00 AM

The Middlesex girls' varsity tennis team traveled to Simsbury, CT to participate in the 2013 NEPSAC Class B tournament this weekend.  The team had been selected from a wide field as one of the top 8 teams in Class B.  Seeded number two, the Zebras began the day playing Ethel Walker School.  The tournament format had the three doubles teams on the court first.  The number one team of Emma Muresianu and Olivia Dewey powered their way to a dominant win in the 8 game pro-set.  The number two team of Anita and Nikita Kodali and the third team of April Simms and Charlotte Flint followed suit and helped the team take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best of 9 match.  The girls went on to sweep the six singles matches with Katie Bull completing the match by winning her second set in a tie-breaker.

The semi-final round had Middlesex playing a talented team from Sacred Heart from Greenwich, CT.  The girls played well, but were defeated 5-1.  While it put an end to the tournament for the team, the girls have a great deal to be proud of.  Their effort and sportsmanship will be remembered more than the final score.  We thank Westminster School for hosting us for the day.  The team returns to league action on Wednesday by hosting Govenor's Academy.
