The boys' varsity lacrosse squad traveled to North Andover with a reduced complement of players due to the flu that has hit the campus. Of those who were about to travel, seven were battling through illness. Despite not having a full roster however, the Zebras were able to come away with a hard fought 6-5 victory in triple over time!
Middlesex was able to jump out to a quick three-goal lead in the first period against the Bishops' man defense at which point they changed to a zone. The team moved the ball well and took plenty of shots. However, Brooks' zone was stingy and their goaltender was one of the better ones the Zebras have faced this season.
After being up 4-2 at halftime, Brooks scored two in the third to tie it up. Middlesex answered back before the end of the third to go up by one. Brooks however, tied things up with
2:34 left in the game. . Each team had opportunities to win it in regulation but simply couldn't find the back of the net. On to sudden victory overtime the game went...
Middlesex controlled the ball off the faceoff and controlled the ball well, getting a few shots right away. Each goalie had solid displays of athleticism down the stretch which included a point blank save made by Nick Bain to give the Zebras a fighting chance. Finally, AJ Lucchese found Jordan Fong sneaking around the pipe who redirected the ball into the net to take home the victory.
A great team win....especially in the throes of the flu!!!! The team travels to Belmont, MA on Saturday, May 18 for a 2:00pm ISL showdown against a talented Belmont Hill squad.
