Thunderstrorms threatened to dampen the races, but intermittent light rain did nothing to hold back the Zebras on a day of fast racing on the Concord river. With a swift tail wind pushing them down the course, the Middlesex fourth boat took an early lead over Deerfield and Nobles. At the halfway, Middlesex had a length on Nobles, who had over a length of open water on Deerfield. Nobles made a move to close the gap, but across the finish line, Middlesex finished 2 seconds ahead of Nobles and 26 seconds ahead of Deerfield.
In the third boat race, all three boats battled through the first 500, when Nobles started to walk away from Deerfield and Middlesex. DA and MX continued to push each other, challenging for the lead. At the 1,000, Middlesex made a move to push ahead of Deerfield and cut into the lead by Nobles. Coming into the sprint, Middlesex made another strong move, eventually finishing just 4 seconds behind Nobles and 6 seconds ahead of Deerfield.
The second boat race began just as tight among all three crews. By the 500, Middlesex and Nobles had a slight lead on Deerfield. By the 1,000, Deerfield was back a length to neck-and-neck Nobles and Middlesex, but all three crews were still battling hard. Middlesex and Nobles went stroke for stroke through the sprint, but Nobles pulled ahead and edged out Middlesex by two seats.
It was great racing in the first boats as well, albeit with a howling tail wind and the choppiest water of the day. All three came to the halfway within a few seats of one another, when Middlesex pulled ahead. Nobles gained on Deerfield at the 1,000, but Deerfield countered in the sprint and almost caught Nobles. The Middlesex crew held their lead, finishing in a quick
