Led by seniors Emma Satterthwaite Muresianu, Anita Kodali and Nikita Kodali, the Middlesex girls’ varsity tennis team began their regular season by defeating St, Mark’s School 11-4. Despite the blustery and chilly conditions, the team played well right from the start and captured nine out of 12 singles points.
Playing number one singles, Emma took charge from the opening game and secured two points to pace the Zebras on their way to victory. Anita and Nikita each swept their singles matches and combined to earn Middlesex another point in doubles.
A trademark of this year’s team is the depth from one through six in singles. Playing at the number three position, Olivia Dewey showed great effort in battling back in her first set and then powered her way through the second set to secure both points for her team. The team’s depth could also be seen in doubles. April Simms and Nell Gallogly teamed up to win a hard- fought match 8-6. The energetic pair came back from being down 5-6 to win the set and cap the day for their team.
Hoping for warmer days ahead, the team returns to their home court this week to host St. Paul’s School on Wednesday.
