Girls' Varsity Tennis Outlasts Milton 8-7

4/18/2013 9:27:00 AM

In a match that will be remembered for some time, the girls' varsity tennis team defeated Milton Academy 8-7.  Taking almost four hours to complete, the Zebras battled back several times to edge a very talented Milton squad.

Tied at six points apiece at the conclusion of the singles, the final score would come down to a thrilling #2 doubles match.  Trailing 2-5 in the final 8 game pro-set, seniors Nikita and Anita Kodali dug deep and roared back to take the match 9-7 securing the overall victory for their team.
The two teams split the 12 available points in singles with Sophia Corning '16, Anita Kodali '13 and Nikita Kodali '13 each capturing two valuable points for Middlesex.  Sophia and Nikita each took their second set in a tie-breaker.  The match would be settled by the doubles teams.  Olivia Dewey '14 and Charlotte Flint '14 played well, but were beaten by a very strong pair from Milton.  Captain Emma Satterthwaite Muresianu '13 and Sophia proved to be a winning combination as they won their #3 doubles match.  That left the final result in the hands of Anita and Nikita.  With great determination, smart play and loud encouragement from their teammates, the two sisters overcame what seemed like long odds and beat their opponents in a match that both teams can be proud of.
The team concludes a busy week by traveling to Thayer Academy on Friday.
