Football Falls to Roxbury Latin on the Road

10/24/2013 10:41:00 AM

The Middlesex 11 visited West Roxbury, MA for what has become an annual game against the Roxbury Latin School.

The Zebra defense played inspired football throughout most of the first half, holding Roxbury Latin to three points and coming up with a key turnover early in the second quarter.  Ben Marchand '15 caused a fumble on a quick pass to a Roxbury Latin receiver and Hasani Figueroa '14 recovered the ball.  The MX offense wasted little time in turning the turnover into points as George Morris '15 and Figueroa churned out the rushing yardage to take a 7-3 lead on a Figueroa 4 yard run-Sam Carlin '15 adding the kick.  Roxbury Latin would answer late in the second quarter, aided by a personal foul and pass interference penalty, to reclaim the 10-7 lead at halftime.

Both offenses had opportunities in the second half, but Roxbury Latin would capitalize on a long run for a score and an even longer pass play that would be the difference as the Foxes would carry the day 23-7.  The linebacking crew of Charlie Owen '14, James Burr '15, Ben Marchand '15, George Morris '15, and Sam Carlin '15 were the strength of the defense all afternoon.

Middlesex will host Thayer next on Saturday, October 26 at 2:15pm.
