Boys' Varsity Lacrosse Upends Rivers, 8-4

5/1/2012 9:56:00 AM

The Middlesex boys' lacrosse team went to Rivers expecting their biggest game of the year so far and played accordingly .

Traditionally, Rivers has tremendous talent up and down the field; this year was no exception.  We won the opening face off but  the ball quickly went back into our defensive end where Rivers had possession for almost the first four minutes of the game. When we did finally get the ball in our offensive half of the field, their goaltender stopped anything we threw at him until Bryson dodged to the cage with two minutes left and found the back of the net. Then again with just less than a minute Toby found Anders on the backside pipe for  2-0 lead after one period.

Rivers defense was athletic and aggressive and kept our attackmen at bay until AJ  put in our only score of the second period to lead 3-0 at halftime.  Rivers got on the board early in the third quarter for the first time.  Quickly afterwards we responded with three of our own, making it 6-2 at the end of three.  In the fourth period the ball was hotly contested in the middle of the field, each team scoring once to make it 7-3.  The Red Wings closed the gap to 7-4 with three minutes left, and then Middlesex simply possessed the ball for the final minutes of play, getting virtually an open net goal at the end of the game to close the scoring at 8-4.

This win was a great team effort.  AJ,  Anders and Toby all had 2 goals and one assist each while Bryson and Sam M.  were 1/1 each.  The defense played very solid team defense, and goalie James provided a number of outstanding stops throughout the game.

This victory pushes our record to 7-0 with undefeated St. Sebastian's this coming Wednesday.  Two good teams will be squaring off this week to see whose season will continue to remain untarnished.
