The Middlesex girls traveled to Lake Quinsigamond for our second race of the season versus St. Mark's, Groton, and Deerfield.  All three competitors boat fast crews year in and year out, so we were looking forward to great racing.  The day did not disappoint, with sweeps of St. Mark's and Deerfield in all four boats.  Groton had too much speed for the Zebras today, but we look forward to a re-match next week. 

In the fourth boat race, Middlesex went off the line even with Groton and St. Mark's as Deerfield quickly fell off the pace.  Groton slowly pulled away as Middlesex and SMS continued to battle for second place.  Around the 1000-meter mark, the Middlesex girls made their move and pulled away from SMS, finishing over a length ahead.  In the third boat race, Groton pulled off to an early lead while St. Mark's and Middlesex remained close.  With strength and finesse, the Middlesex girls inched away stroke by stroke and finished well ahead of both SMS and Deerfield.  The second boat race begun with closer margins between all four crews in the first 500 meters.  Groton took a slight lead, but it was a four-boat race until about the halfway, at which point Groton pulled well ahead, Middlesex made a move on SMS, and Deerfield and SMS battled for third place.  Middlesex was unable to catch Groton but stayed in front of SMS and Deerfield over the line. 

The final and most exciting race of the day was the first boat contest.  Again, all four boats had contact off the start.  Deerfield fell off the pace by the 500-meter mark and Groton took a slight lead, but it was still anybody's race.  Middlesex and St. Mark's raced hard to gain seats as Groton extended their lead to a length.  Just before the sprint, Middlesex made a strong move on Groton and gained nearly a deck, but Groton was able to take it back during the sprint.  Middlesex was able to edge out SMS by a mere second for an exciting finish.

After two races, all four boats are 3-1!
