Girls' Varsity Tennis Defeats Defending ISL Champions St. Pauls

4/12/2012 1:44:00 PM

The Middlesex girls’ tennis team had a great week!  The team officially opened their ISL season play with a 14-1 win over St. Mark's School.  It was a cold Saturday at the outdoor courts, but the players got off to a quick start in singles play.

Senior captain Emily played her first match for Middlesex and had a great win over her opponent scoring 2 points for our squad. Middlesex secured all 12 singles points and 2 of the doubles points.

Yesterday, the team traveled up to Concord, NH to take on St. Paul’s School.  Last year, the Pelicans finished as the 2011 ISL Co-Champions (with Thayer Academy) and Middlesex was prepare for a long, tough match. The play started outside but moved to their indoor facility after 30 minutes of play due to heavy rain. Middlesex won 8 of the 12 singles points with two players (Nikita and Charlotte) coming back to win their second sets after losing their first. Both Nikita and Charlotte dug deep to figure out and execute a new strategy in their second sets, which allowed them to play more offensively and each secure a point towards the team score.

In doubles, the girls won 2 out of 3 of the points to bring the final score to 10-5. It was a great day of tennis and the Middlesex girls’ tennis squad is excited to be 3-0 on the season!

Our next match is at home this Saturday at 1:00 pm against the Nobles Bulldogs.
