Middlesex jumped to an early lead against Hebron Academy on Friday night and did not slow down for a solid 45:00 minutes of hockey. The 5-0 victory was an entire team effort and the Zebras 14
th win of the season. Sophomore Christina ended the game with 19 saves to backstop her team to victory.
The Zebras kept consistent pressure on the Lumberjacks throughout the entire first period. Maddie ’14 broke open the scoring for the night at the 8:22 mark when Arushi ’14 fed a pass to Jordan ’12 from the point who found Maddie in the slot for the go ahead goal. Just under 30 seconds later, Eleanor ’13 scored her second goal in two games to help widen the gap.
After a slow start in their game against Groton earlier in the week, Middlesex was excited by their consistent and strong performance throughout the first period. The Lumberjacks continued to challenge the Zebra defensive unit of Leah ’15,
Arushi ’14, Brooke ’14, Ashley ’13 and Jeanie ’13 in the second, but could not get the puck past the goal line. Sarah ’14 scored the lone goal of the period off of a pass from Isabel ’13 and Leah to put the home team on top 3-0.
The Zebras showed no signs of complacency in the third as Jordan fired a slap shot into the net from the high slot off of a pass from Maddie and Brooke .8 seconds into the period. For the next 12:00 minutes, both teams saw numerous scoring opportunities but the goaltenders held tough. The forward line of Cici, Hailey and Jordan generated great puck movement in the offensive zone and with 3:49 left in the game, their hard work paid off as Arushi blasted a shot from the point over the Hebron goaltender’s shoulder for the final goal of the night.
Middlesex returns to ISL action on Wednesday, February 8 when they face St. Paul's at 3:00pm in Concord, MA.
