The Zebras traveled to Newport, RI for their final league game. Despite the grass surface, Middlesex adjusted very quickly and opened up the scoring just three and a half minutes into the game.
The first goal, a skillful redirection to the top corner of the cage, ignited Middlesex, and they immediately brought the ball back into shooting range. In less than eight minutes, the Zebras scored three more goals to take a 4-0 lead at 18:35 in the first half. The play then shifted slightly, as St. George's stepped up their game and put more pressure on the visitors. With 6:51 remaining in the half, St. George's notched a goal to bring the score to 4-1.
In the second half, Middlesex had several chances, but couldn't covert and goalie Leah Olson made one save, denying the Dragons an opportunity to score. Middlesex untimately outcornered St. George's 7-2.
It was a terrific team effort today as the seniors, Maddie Miller, Clare Lyne, Maggie Paul, and Anna Toth valiantly led the Zebras. Sophomores Charlotte Livingston and Katie Bull made several good steps to the ball while Pennie Herring '15 carried the ball numerous times down the right side of the field, and Ali Corkran '15 put pressure on the goalie in the circle.
The Zebras will now wait word for the Class B New England tournament standings and end their regular season with a 12-4-1 record.
