The game started out looking like it could become an offensive shootout. Milton’s first offensive possession was an effective, time consuming drive that took up most of the first quarter. Milton scored on a 12 yard run but missed the point after to kick for an early 6-0 lead. The MX 11 immediately responded to the Milton score with a drive of their own, covering 60 yards and ending with a 22 yard touchdown pass from QB Nick Andonian ’13 to WR Will Kreitler ’13. The point after kick went wide, knoting the score at 6-6.
In the second quarter Milton’s offense moved into high gear with a pounding run game in which they scored three more times for a 27-6 halftime score. Things looked promising for the MX 11 to start the second half, as the offense moved the ball very effectively on their first two possessions but were not able to connect on any scoring plays. Milton’s offense continued to wear down the MX defense even though the defensive front of Brendon Canavan ’13, Austin May ’13, Andrew Matos ’13, Ben Caniff ’15, Rob Zawada ’13, Sam Carlin ’15, James Burr ’15, George Morris ’15, and Charlie Owen did their best to slow it down. The MX offense did finally score at the end of the third quarter on a roll out by Nick Andonian who found Nick Widen ’13 in the end zone for a 17 yard touchdown pass. Andonan then connected with Will Kreitler for the two point conversion. Unfortunately, by then the game was out of reach 42-14, as younger players gained valuable experience in the fourth quarter.
The next game will be on Saturday, October 6 against Brooks in North Andover, where the MX 11 hope to improve their current record of 1-1.
