In a tale of two Zebras, Groton and Middlesex met on the Middlesex turf on Friday to kick-off the long weekend for both schools.
Determined and prepared, Middlesex took control of the ball from the first whistle and earned a corner in the third minute of play. In a creative corner effort, the home Zebras notched their first goal at 27:30- immediately setting the tone for the rest of the game. The strong defensive unit held Groton to just one shot in the first half, and the forwards completed their task by scoring a second goal at 15:30 in the half. Less than one minute later, Maggie Paul notched the third goal created by a terrific effort by Maddie Winslow.
In the second half, Middlesex continued to pressure the talented Groton goalie, but the visiting Zebras picked up more opportunities, testing the Middlesex defense. In the final three minutes, Groton scored, but the Middlesex Zebras headed into their weekend with the solid win.
