The Middlesex girls’ varsity ice hockey team returned to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as senior Jordan tallied three goals en route to a 4-0 victory over Governor's.
Jordan ’12 opened the scoring 25 seconds into the first period when she deflected a pass from Maddie ’14 into the upper left corner of the net. The Zebras continued to bombard the Governor’s goaltender but were unable to produce any more points for the remaining 14:35. Entering the locker room, Middlesex knew they were not playing to their full potential and discussed the adjustments that needed to be made in order to take home a win.
The second period continued much like the first. The Zebras struggled to break out of their defensive zone and execute the strong passing game they had earlier in the week against Nobles. With 11:38 left on the clock, Jordan scored her second goal of the game with an assist from Arushi ‘14. Katie ’12 was a dominate figure in the net; making several key saves that helped MX maintain the two goal lead.
Middlesex took to the ice in the third a completely different team. They rallied together and played with a new found confidence and poise. At 13:16 Jordan scored her third goal of the game with an assist from sophomore Sarah to give the Zebras more room to breathe. Eleanor ’13 capped off the scoring for the afternoon with a tip-in off of a shot from Eliza ’12 at the 4:18 mark.Despite a slow start, the victory proved to serve as an invaluable lesson on the importance of working together as a team in order to achieve success.
The Zebras will return to their home ice on Wednesday, January 18 when they face off against St. Marks at 2:30pm.
