The girls’ varsity ice hockey team suffered their second loss of the season to a strong and talented Nobles. Although the Zebras were disappointed to come home without a victory, they played an incredible 45 minutes of hockey.
Nobles dominated the first five minutes of play and were able to put the puck in the net 1: 14 into the period. Middlesex quickly regrouped and started to generate solid passing sequences up the ice. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the period as both goaltenders were outstanding between the pipes.
The second period was evenly played at both ends of the ice. The Zebras peppered the Bulldog’s goal with shots but could not find the back of the net. Katie '12 continued to make pivotal saves that kept Middlesex in the game. Jeanie ‘ 13, Ashley 13, Brooke ’14 and Leah ’15 supported the forward line and shut down multiple scoring opportunities for the explosive Nobles forwards.
With 15 minutes remaining in the game, Middlesex took the ice for the final period ready to battle. The momentum of the period only continued to gain speed as the finals minutes of the clock ticked down. Nobles scored what would be the final goal of the game on a power play goal with 13:30 left on the board. The Zebras did not stop skating until the final buzzer sounded but unfortunately could not close the two goal deficit.
The entire team played with heart and passion and will look to carry that same spirit into their game against Governors on Saturday, January 14 at 2:15pm.
