12/8/2011 11:12:00 AM

The girls’ varsity ice hockey team picked up their second win of the season with a 6-2 victory over Proctor Academy. The Zebras had a goal to play three periods of solid hockey and they did not disappoint.

The forward line of Eleanor ’13, Cici ’14 and Isabel ’13 set the tone of the game from the moment the first whistle blew They applied the pressure to Proctor’s defense and did not let up for the entire shift. Six minutes into the game, sophomore defenseman Arushi stepped up from the point and skillfully weaved her way through two of Proctor’s forwards. She then fired a beautiful shot into the upper left corner of the net to put Middlesex on the score board first. For the remainder of the first period, the Middlesex defense continued to support the forward line and moved the puck out of the defensive end. The Zebras left the ice pleased with the improvements they had made since their last game but were certainly not content.

Middlesex came out of the gates the second period ready to play and en route to a three goal lead. Freshman defenseman Leah opened the scoring when she received a pass from Isabel ’13 on the blue line and fired a shot between the goaltenders legs to pick up her first MX career goal. Two minutes later, senior Jordan scored her fourth goal in two games when she received a pass from line-mates Eliza ’12 and Maddie ’14 and lofted the puck into the upper right side of the net. Proctor continued to apply the pressure to goaltender Katie ’12 but were unable to get the puck past the goal line. The Middlesex defense stood their ground until the final minutes of play.

The Zebras continued their strong performance in the third period. Jordan tallied her second goal of the game seven minutes into the play with a pass from Eliza. Minutes later, junior defenseman Ashley notched her first point of the season with an assist from Jordan to bring the score to five. A determined Proctor forward answered shortly after however by riffling a shot into the net to put PA on the board. The Zebras responded one final time as Jordan picked up a rebound from Maddie and shot the puck top-center for her second hat trick in two games. Proctor would score once more with minutes left on the clock but were un able to further close the gap.

Katie ’12 closed with 24 saves on the evening to earn the win.

Middlesex will return to action on Friday, December 9 for their third home game of the season against a strong and talented Rivers. The puck drops at 5:00pm.
