Brought up in Charlottesville, Virginia, John graduated from Charlottesville High School and earned his A.B. in Classics at Harvard. He subsequently earned an Ed.M. at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education and taught in public school systems in Boston and Virginia. Since joining the Middlesex faculty in 1990, John has coached squash and tennis and served as the Yearbook advisor for several years; in 1997, he received his M.F.A. in fiction writing from Bennington College. John retired from Middlesex in 2023 but will continue to be the head coach of girls’ varsity squash.
