The Middlesex Alpine Ski Program has a long tradition of competition and excellence. The team is composed of experienced racers with long backgrounds of racing for club teams at their home mountains and of versatile skiers who adapt their expertise to the race course. Together, we create a dynamic and rewarding winter athletic experience for everyone.
Both our girls’ and boys’ teams have had great success in the past several years, within the Independent School League (ISL) and the New England Prep School Association (NEPSAC). The boys have captured ISL League Championships, garnered all-league honors and placed in the top 5 at the NEPSAC Class A Championships. Not to be outdone, our girls’ team has won the NEPSAC Class B Championships and earned both all-league and all-New England awards. In recent years, our program has also produced a two-time Boston Globe All-Scholastic award winner and alumni who have raced in Division I programs in the Eastern Interscholastic Ski Association and in Division II and club racing programs. We take our racing seriously, and hope to continue Middlesex’s tradition of excellence in Alpine Skiing.
Our season begins in November with a rigorous dry-land training program: running, agility work, and strength training. As soon as there is snow on the ground, we begin training at our local hill, Nashoba Valley, host to our weekly ISL races. During race season, we compete every Wednesday, practice three other days on snow, and spend the balance of our practice times on strength and conditioning. We also use facilities on campus to keep our skis race-ready. We race in both giant slalom and slalom. We take advantage of weekends and school breaks to train on larger mountains. In recent years, we have taken training trips to Killington, Bolton Valley, and Cannon. Our New England Championships generally fall in mid-February and take us farther afield to race against schools from throughout New England. We complete our season in mid-March. The alpine ski program is a closely-knit group of student-athletes who savor their time together on the hill, and enjoy the intensity of competition as well as the camaraderie of the team.
