GROTON, Mass. - Highlighted by a record-setting performance from senior
Aidan Canty-Whitt (Concord, Mass.) the Middlesex boys track and field team powered to a first place finish in a tri-meet hosted by Groton that also featured Lawrence Academy.
Canty-Whitt reset his own school record in the discus with a throw of 134-11 and also took top honors in the shot put with his mark of 44-7.75.
Orion Saunders (Westford, Mass.) meanwhile, also won two events on the afternoon. The Tulane football signee was first in both the triple jump with season-bests in the triple jump (42-1) and the long jump (21-1).
On the track, Saunders then teamed up with
Theo Moore (Louisville, Ky.),
Alvin Zhang (Weston, Mass.) and
Felix Wetzel (Concord, Mass.) to cross the finish line first in the 4x100 relay.
Wetzel was first in the 100 meter, turning in a season-best performance (11.46), while Colby-bound
Tyler Martinez (Concord, Mass.) posted a season-best in the 800 (2:01.19).
Career best showings from
Julian Barber (Concord, Mass.) in the 3000 meter (10:20.73) and Moore in the 300 hurdles (45.08) were other highlights for the Zebras on the day.
Middlesex now turns its attention to the ISL Championships on Saturday morning at Belmont Hill.
