BYFIELD, Mass. - Senior standout Cassidy Bruno (Andover, Mass.) put a huge exclamation point on her Middlesex track and field career by claiming a New England Championship on Saturday afternoon at the NEPSTA Division II Championships at The Governor's Academy.

In addition to Bruno, Grace-Ann Bailey (Kingston, Jamaica) put a bow on her junior campaign with a New England title of her own in the high jump.

That duo helped the Zebras to an eighth place finish (34) while the host Govs won the overall team title with 89 points. They were followed by Buckingham, Browne and Nichols (47), Noble and Greenough (47), Cheshire Academy (44), Berkshire School (42), Greenwich Country Day (42) and Tabor Academy (40), giving the ISL five of the top eight schools overall.

In the 800 meter run, Bruno blazed her way to a first-place finish in the second heat, posting a time of 2:22.42 - more than two seconds ahead of second place Madelyn Ventola of Cheshire Academy. Nadia Abdinoor (Lexington, Mass.) was third with a personal best time of 2:26.12.

Bailey, meanwhile, repeated as the New England title holder in the high jump, with her leap of 5-5, capping a stellar junior campaign that saw her win the event in every meet this season. Along with Bailey, Middlesex picked up points from Perry Manekas (Winchester, Mass.) who finished third with her 4-10 performance.

That foursome - Abdinoor, Menkas, Bruno and Bailey - also grabbed points in the 4x100 relay, finishing fifth in 51.76.
