Governor's Pushes Past Zebras, 14-4

4/30/2026 1:27:00 PM

BYFIELD, Mass. - The Middlesex Zebras faced a formidable challenge against a deep and talented Governors Academy squad in a hard-fought girls lacrosse matchup that tested both grit and resolve. In the end, the ISL battle went to the hosts, 14-4.

From the opening draw, Governors' depth and pace kept the Zebras on their heels, but Middlesex answered with relentless defensive effort. Time and again, the Zebras dug in for long defensive stands, refusing to yield easy looks and forcing multiple turnovers that shifted momentum and energized the sideline.

In the cage, Erin Larson (North Andover, Mass.) stood tall under pressure, turning away shots to keep the energy up. Her steady presence gave the Zebras the confidence to battle through extended possessions and transition opportunities.

The second half showcased Middlesex at its most determined. The Zebras matched Governors goal for goal in a 2–2 half, fueled in particular by the leadership, tenacity, and resilience of Cate Glass (Brookline, Mass.), Thea Salem (Cambridge, Mass.), Avery Swenson (Carlisle, Mass.), and Lucy McGaraghan (Lexington, Mass.). Their hustle between the restraining lines, pressure on the ball, and refusal to back down highlighted the team's character.

Offensively, Middlesex found the back of the net through the combined efforts of Glass, Bella Santucci (Leominster, Mass.), Addie Curry (Carlisle, Mass.), and Salem, who accounted for the four Zebra goals on the day. Each tally came as the result of hard work against a disciplined defense. Salem also forced the most caused turnovers and had the most ground balls on the day while Swenson made several blocks that broke up Governor's attempts.

Though the final result did not fall in Middlesex's favor, the Zebras fought until the final whistle. Their determination never wavered, and their resilience in the face of a strong opponent spoke volumes about the team's character and competitive spirit.

Middlesex concludes its three game week on Saturday with a home game against Tabor Academy. First draw is slated for 3:00 PM.
