CONCORD, Mass. - The Middlesex wrestling team hosted Portsmouth Abbey on Friday, January 16 in the last competition before the semester break. The Zebras won five of the seven contested matches and cruised to a 51-24 over the Ravens, showing tenacity and skill while earning bonus points in each of the five victories.
At 113 pounds, senior
Kassie Schaeberle (Concord, Mass.) thrilled the home crowd with clinical work from neutral and a powerful ride out on her way to earning a third period win by fall.
Sophomore
Jerry Cao (Boston, Mass.)
extended his win streak with a dominant performance at 132, closing out a 18-1 victory by technical fall with thirty seconds left in the second period.
At 157, sophomore
Jacob Li (West Newton, Mass.) also looked dynamic from the neutral position, getting to multiple leg attacks and earning a 20-5 technical fall in just under three minutes. Sophomore
Edgar Choi (Seoul, Korea), meanwhile, scored a quick pin at 165 to put the Zebras up 34 -18 and senior co-caption
Caleb Mitchell (Sudbury, Mass.) sealed the team victory at 195 with an 18-3 technical fall, dominating from whistle to whistle with explosive leg attacks and skilled mat wrestling.
Middlesex returns to action on Wednesday with an away tri-meet at Belmont Hill and Lexington Christian Academy.
