Mayhew '27 Strike Helps Zebras Earn Draw With Dexter

Brookline, Mass. - Playing their third match  in a five-day stretch, the boys varsity soccer squad registered a 1-1 draw with Dexter-Southfield on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Sox setup their defense in the penalty area, which proved to difficult for the Zebras to break through. Their attack was sprung by long punts from keeper Noah Brown to their physical attack, Charlie Roberts. With the exception of a few set pieces and long throw-ins that resulted from challenges to the long ball attack, the rest of the match was played in Dexter's half of the field.

Middlesex finally capitalized on a promising chance in the 27th minute when Long Nguyen '27 broke in on the right flank through a deft touch from Mahad Garad '29 to play a cross into the feet of an onrushing Bryan Mahew '26 who deposited it in the net for the 1-0 advantage.

That lead was short-lived, however, as just six minutes later, Dexter earned a long throw-in and the ball eventually found its way to the feet of Roberts for the close range finish inside the six-yard box.

Despite that being the only shot on goal of the match for Dexter, it was enough for the hosts to earn a draw.

Both Garad and Mayhew stood out for Middlesex and Dexter's collective team effort was the key to their success.

Middlesex is back in action on Saturday, September 20 when they travel to Saint Mark's for a 2:30 PM first touch.
