The Middlesex Boys' Varsity Tennis team produced their signature win for the 2025 season by defeating the always talented Groton squad 7-0 in the Battle of the Zebras. Prior to last year's thrilling 4-3 win, Middlesex had lost 9 matches in a row to Groton including 3 straight by the scoreline of 7-0. The Middlesex team is starting to peak at the right time, with significant improvement in doubles in particular. MX swept all three doubles matches, highlighted by a critical service hold by sophomore Tim Zhao along with sophomore partner Declan Power playing #3. At 7-6, Zhao came back from being behind 15-40 to win three straight points to secure the doubles point. Juniors Fred Murphy and Luke Felago played some of the best doubles tennis of the season at #2, rolling over their opponents 8-4.Â

Middlesex capitalized on its doubles point by getting off to a fast start at singles. Special recognition to senior co-captain Hudson Hinckley for showing the fortitude that it means to be a Middlesex athlete. After losing the first set 1-6, Hinckley settled into a war of attrition with his talented Groton opponent, trading proverbial blows to stage a comeback to win the second set 6-4. With the skies darkening from an impending rainstorm, Hinckley bore down to outlast Groton in the tiebreak to finish the last match of the day and complete the sweep.Â

The win over Groton takes the Middlesex team to 8-2 on the season, but with league leading Roxbury Latin on the docket for a home clash on Wednesday. Â
