Middlesex arrived at Deerfield on a rainy April day. The Zebras came out strong scoring two goals - one from sophomore Annika McNulty and a career first from freshman Marin Gustafson. Deerfield answered, but had difficulty against a gritty Middlesex defense. The Zebras couldn't capitalize on some great scoring opportunities and unfortunately, Deerfield was able to find the spots inside and finish the play to take a lead. Both teams had difficulty with the transition given the weather, but more balls fell Deerfield's way and they took a more decisive lead going into the fourth quarter. Middlesex, however, closed the gap by scoring three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter and the defense stiffened and caused several turnovers. Thea Salem and Finley Crosby combined for four CTOs and Margot Curry, Crosby, Lucy McGaraghan, and Avery Swenson combined for 9 contested ground balls. Erin Larson and Lev Lynch combined for a great day in the goal with several point blank saves and successful clears. The young Zebras took on some powerhouse non-league opponents, and now stand ready to take on their first ISL opponent on Wednesday.
