Girls' Lacrosse Edges St. George's 11-9

4/27/2025 10:43:00 AM

The Middlesex Zebras came out strong in the first minute of play in front of a large, rain-soaked reunion fan group. Notching the first goal just 35 seconds in the game, the Zebras gained confidence. However, the Dragons came firing back and tallied five unanswered goals in the first quarter. Middlesex brought the deficit to three goals with a second tally by Cate Glass in the final 30 seconds of play. In the second quarter, the defense stiffened and settled into some terrific team play under the leadership of Sophie Watson, Thea Salem, and Finley Crosby. Aidan Bell was also terrific on the one-v-one. The offense began to find their groove as well and scored two goals thanks to Crosby and Glass to bring the score to 5-4. The Dragons answered with two goals of their own bringing the score to 7-4 in St. George's favor. Middlesex, however, refused to let down and came firing back with three goals, the first coming from the joint effort of two ninth graders, Marin Gustafson and Taylor Thompson. Gustafson struck again with less than a minute remaining and Addie Curry evened the score at 7 with a goal at 0:23.  Middlesex took their first lead 3 minutes into the third quarter but St. George's answered to tie the game at 8. The game remained tied at 8 for the remaining 7 minutes of the third as both defensive units made big plays in the 8 meter. St. George's struck first in the fourth quarter, but Middlesex fought tirelessly for every loose ball and draw and rallied for three unanswered goals and a 11-9 victory.
