The Middlesex Boys Varsity Tennis team played Milton away on a blustery and cold Wednesday on outdoor courts. It was the windiest day the boys had played a match by far this year and made the team grateful to have indoor courts at Middlesex in which to play during the mercurial New England spring weather.
Although the team ultimately lost 2-5, the match was much closer than the scoreline would suggest. The team got off to a slow start in doubles, losing at #2 and #3 to spot Milton a point before coming out for singles. Juniors #1 Lach McCaghren and #5 Luke Felgao both won their matches in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, and 6-3, 7-5, respectively. Felago remains undefeated on the season and has been an anchor of strength in the #5 spot. Two of the remaining singles matches went down to decisive tie breaks, with sophomore #2 Declan Power falling 3-6, 6-4, (9-11) in a tightly contested match. Junior Fred Murphy battled the wind and his opponent, ultimately losing 4-6, 7-5, (6-10). The two teams were extremely evenly matched and the back and forth matches could have gone either way. The squad will get a much needed break after 5 matches in 8 days, and will be back at it against Lawrence at home on the 23
rd, and Rivers at home on the 25
th. Come cheer the boys on!
