After a reset day, the Zebras came out ready to battle against ISL rival Rivers. From the first draw, the Zebras controlled much of the play as they fought for every draw and every loose ball. Middlesex struck first, but Rivers answered just 14 seconds later to even the score. Addie Curry, Finley Crosby, and Cate Glass combined for two more goals in the next five minutes, but the Red Wings came back fighting to even the score with two quick goals in the last two minutes of the quarter. Taylor Thompson, Lucy McGaraghan, and Lucia Cook held the crew steady and poised in the attack. The second quarter was scoreless as both teams fought defensively. Rivers broke the 14 minutes of scoreless play with a third quarter goal with 9:53 remaining in the third to take their first lead of the game (4-3), but the tenacious Zebras had other plans for this game. With gritty draw play and possessions won in the middle and excellent feeding on offense, the Zebras scored three goals in 6 minutes thanks to Marin Gustafson, Curry, and Annika McNulty. But the Zebras were not finished- thanks to several defensive stops - the attack rewarded our defense with four more unanswered goals in four minutes to take a 10-4 lead with goals from four different players and assists from Crosby and Ryan Pinney. Rivers answered with a run and gun goal off the draw to bring the game to 10-5 with 7:27 remaining, but the Zebras continued to make stops in the defensive end thanks to the entire unit and goalie Erin Larson, and the offense was poised and patient and finished with a final tally and possession for the remainder of the game. The defensive unit of Sophie Watson, Margot Curry, Aidan Bell, Avery Swenson, and Thea Salem were stellar in front of Larson and six different players added points to the board today in a full team effort.Â
