CONCORD, Mass. - Middlesex hosted Winsor in their first match of the season and in an extremely tight contest, MX emerged victorious, 4-3.

At No. 1, junior Anjali Mehta (Wayland, Mass.) won 3-0.

At No. 2, freshman Stella Gu (Beijing, China) responded to her opponent's tough volleys and counterpunches in games 2 and 4, to take control of the T and the match and win the 5th game 11-4, for a 3-2 triumph.

At No. 4, junior Mia Nolin (Palm Beach, Fla.) used power to the back to open the court for her winners and won 3-0.

In the end, the match came down to the No. 3 position, the last match on court, where junior Claire Ryu (Marlboro, Mass.) came back from 5-10 down to win the first game. Her opponent responded with a strong second game but Ryu responded with a dominant third game before her opponent responded with an even stronger fourth game moving Ryu all over the court--and Winsor seemed to have the momentum going into the fifth game. However, down 5-8 and later 9-10, match ball against her, Ryu used clever placement and lobs to win the match 12-10 in the fifth.

The Zebras travel to Dana Hall on Friday.
