Late Strike Sends Zebras Past Brooks, 3-2

CONCORD, Mass. - A showdown of Class B rivals provided a highly entertaining, back-and-forth game that was fought hard through to the final whistle.

Brooks got on the scoreboard first, as Latu Kayira '27 found space from 25 yards out and unleashed a missile that found the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Adriano Valmora '28 answered for Middlesex twenty minutes later, as Colin Hope '26 pressed on to a clearance and blocked the ball into Valmora's path for an emphatic finish into the roof of the net.

The halftime whistle went at 1-1 and there was very little to separate the two sides.

The game wore on for 30 minutes in the second half before Valmora jumped on a defensive mistake from a pass by Will McCarthy '28, rounded the keeper and tucked the ball home into an empty net for a 2-1 lead to Middlesex.

Brooks piled on the pressure for the last 15 minutes, seeking the equalizer, and Kayira was a constant threat. As the 90 minutes ran out, the referee signaled for five minutes of added time.

In the third minute of extra time, Fernando Rivas-Lora '27 made a run forward from the midfield and was played in from the left side to found space for a point blank finish. The Brooks
team and fans erupted, with the 93rd minute equalizer looking like the last significant moment of an excellent and evenly played match.

However, Bryan Mayhew '26 had something to say about that, as he was played in by Chris De Morais '29 for a one-on-one with the keeper that he tucked into the back of the net in the 96th minute.

Brooks deserved more, as they created a number of great chances in the first and second half, but the finishing touch was either elusive or stymied by some magnificent saves from Noah Browne '27 in the Middlesex net.

Jax Cloutier '28 and Kayira were the standout players for Brooks and Valmora and Mayhew were the difference makers in the win for Middlesex.
