MILTON, Mass. - Powered by a trio of top five finishers, the Middlesex girls cross country team continued their season of dominance by claiming two more victories to improve to 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at Cunningham Park.
The Zebras topped host Milton 21-40 and Nobles 23-33 to give the senior class their 50th career wins. A class that features six seniors - Anika Ata (Carlisle, Mass.),
Cassidy Bruno (Andover, Mass.),
Cate Corbett (Harvard, Mass.),
Stella Curwin-Amfitheatrof (Bridgewater, Conn.),
Angela Huffer (Juneau, Alaska) and
Kate Tantillo (Concord, Mass.) - has had incredible success during their careers thus far. As freshmen, they were a part of an Independent School League (ISL) title in 2022, then helped Middlesex finish second as sophomores in 2023 before reclaiming the title last season. In addition to their league honors they have won back-to-back New England titles (2023, 2024), cementing themselves and the leaders of one of New England's premier programs.
In Saturday's meet, Curwin-Amfitheatrof finished second overall with a time of 19:15 behind Milton's Esme Campbell, who set a new school record (19:05).
She was followed by Bruno in fourth place (20:10) and standout freshman Jude Hebb (Princeton, Mass.) in fifth (20:11).
Corbett (21:05) was also in the top ten (seventh), while Ata (21:45) and Pipsa Palatsi (21:49) crossed the finish line in 11th and 12th places, respectively.
Meanwhile, Huffer (21:55), who finished 15th, and Tantillo, who completed the course layout in 17th, (22:42) each churned out top 20 performances.
On the junior varsity side, Caroline Stilwell (Winchester, Mass.) and
Marvelous Ugwu (Hyde Park, Mass.) notched top five finishes in fourth and fifth place efforts with times of 23:49 and 23:51, respectively.
Presley Bruno (Andover, Mass.) and
Pink Ye (Brisbane, Australia) turned in 11th and 13th place showings in times of 24:55 and 25:11, while
Stella Pham (New York, N.Y.) clocked in at 25:54, good for 18th place.
The regular season wraps up this Saturday with the annual Family Weekend home meet which will feature Governor's, Saint Mark's and Tabor Academy.
