The Zebras hosted Milton Academy on Wednesday and won a hard-fought victory 5-2 against the '23 ISL champions. In the first round matches, Zoe Le ('27) played aggressively to win her match at the #6 position 3-0, while Claire Ru ('27) at #2 used the height of the front wall as well as clever drops and boasts to just edge out the Milton #2 in three tight games. In the second round, Katie Le ('27), playing #7, got out in front of her hard-hitting opponent in the first two games, and then weathered a storm of hard shots to the back in the third game, to come back from 6-10 down in the third, and win her match 3-0. Playing #5, Katie Chen ('26) used a mix of deep and short shots to come from behind in game 2 and then run out the match in game 3 and so win her match 3-0. Finally, at the #3 position, Mia Nolin ('27) fell behind her hard-hitting opponent 2 games to none. But Mia raised her level in the third game and won 11-7, hitting tighter shots and making better use of the front of the court, and though Mia was twice down match ball in the fourth game, she came back to win it 13-11 and force a fifth game. In the final game, Mia raised her level yet again: keeping the ball tight to the side walls and finishing points at the front, she won the game decisively.Â
