On a beautiful day at St. Marks, the girls' cross country team gave their best effort in a matchup against St. Marks and BBN. BBN's Scarlett Hawkins won the race in a time of 20:04, leading her team to a 24-31 win against Middlesex. Middlesex's Stella Curwin-Afitheatrof and Cassidy Burno weren't far behind, clocking 20:18 and 20:37 to take 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Cate Corbett finished next for Middlesex in her season opener, taking 9th place, followed by Anika Ata, Maggie Cabot, and Angela Huffer in 12th, 13th, and 14th places. Allison Luo completed Middlesex's varsity top 7 in 18th place.
The Middlesex JV team won against BBN with a score of 26-31 and lost to St. Mark's 27-29. Sue Hayashi led the team, finishing 2nd in a field of 23 runners. Hayashi, Marvelous Ugwu, Jessica Wu, and Celine Ding all ran particularly strong races to clock personal best times across the 5k distance.
The team looks forward to racing against Tabor Academy and Thayer Academy next Saturday at Tabor.
