The Zebras took on a non-league powerhouse, Dexter Southfield in today's matchup. Middlesex fought off several DS offensive pushes in the first quarter and were able to keep the score at donuts until 3:39 remaining. The seniors, however, refused to give in, winning a crucial draw and working the ball to Ryan Pinney just 35 seconds later to even the score. With a score of 1-2 to start the second, DS took control of the game, scoring on several assisted goals. In the third quarter, the defense stiffened allowing only 4 goals and senior Siena Berardinelli added a much-needed tally to bring back the Zebra fight. In the fourth quarter, the Zebras came alive when ninth grader Annika McNulty came into the game and scored her first career goal and Berardinelli followed with another free position goal. Katie Athanasoulas finished the scoring off an Ellie Bracken feed to bring the game to 12-5. While the Zebras did not come up with the win, they played an excellent fourth quarter and will look to use that momentum going forward. Avery Taylor and Cate Glass combined for 10 contested ground balls and Athanasoulas earned three caused turnovers. Lily McTeague was outstanding in net, notching 13 saves on the day.
