The Middlesex Boys' Varsity Tennis team defeated a strong BB&N team on Alumni Weekend at their home courts by the score of 4-3. This win brings the Zebra's record for the year to 8-3.Â
Â
Middlesex got off to a strong start by taking the doubles point, powered by sophomore duo Lach McCaghren and Luke Felago prevailing at #1 8-3 and freshmen combination Declan Power and Tim Zhang winning 8-2. The boys played hard to set the tone for what would be a tight match.Â
Â
#1 McCaghren and #2 Power won their singles matches 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-2, respectively in dominant performances. With the Zebras needing only one more point to win the overall match, the BB&N team fought valiantly to take the 1st set in each of the remaining four singles matches. With the pressure building, junior Co-Captain Hudson Hinkley put the team on his back for the deciding point. Having lost the 1st set 0-6, Hinkley battled back to take the 2nd set 6-2 and gutted out a win in the tiebreak 10-5 to secure the winning point as his teammates cheered him on. Â
The victory over BB&N was the quintessential team win for the strong Zebras squad. The combination of young talent with more experienced players proved the winning combination on this Saturday afternoon. Â
