2/14/2024 9:29:00 AM

The Middlesex Wrestling team traveled to Belmont Hill Saturday for the annual Graves Kelsey tournament. Four wrestlers won individual accolades after a tough day of competition against the best wrestlers in the ISL, and the team finished 10th overall.

Junior co-captain Marcus Dougé won a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the consolation round of four over Karson Bilezerian of St. Sebastian's to earn a place in the medal round; he finished 6th after a loss in the consi-semis and a medical forfeit in the 5th place match.

Sophomore Harper Edwards opened the tournament with a quick win by fall and battled Auden Duda from Roxbury Latin in the quarterfinals, coming up short in an exciting 13-5 major decision. After another win by fall in the consolation round of four, an injury held him out of the next two matches, and he also finished in 6th place.

Sophomore Katherine Deng upset 3rd seeded Casey Chiang from Roxbury Latin in the quarterfinals and was dominant in the consi-semis; she earned 4th place, improving on last year's 5th place finish in the same weight class.

Sophomore Kassie Schaeberle came up short in two hard-fought matches going into the placement round, but closed out the tournament with a dramatic and crowd-pleasing win over Ryana Riaz of Governor's Academy, scoring on two clean cutback doubles and dominating on the mat.

Junior Fiona Fittante, sophomore Caleb Mitchell, junior Ray Yu and sophomore Aidan Canty-Whitt also competed for Middlesex.

The intrepid Zebras will continue their postseason run at the NEPSWA championship this Friday and Saturday.
