Girls’ Cross Country Defends D2 New England Championship Title

11/9/2024 5:37:00 PM

The Girls' Cross Country team won the NEPSTA Championship for the second year in a row, scoring 69 points to best Hopkins School (2nd), BBN (3rd), and Austin Prep (4th). The event took place at Brooks School over a hilly, windy course. Stella Curwin-Amfithreatrof settled into the lead pack from the start, battling BBN's Scarlett Hawkins all the way to the line; the two competitors finished neck and neck, with Hawkins winning by a fraction of a second. Cassidy Bruno ran an expertly executed race to take 4th place, and Anika Ata, despite a fall downhill around mile one, ran one of her best races of the season to finish in 14th place. Catherine Bain finished next for Middlesex, capping off an incredible four year MX cross country career with a 24th place finish. Captain Maggie Cabot, also running her last race for Middlesex, followed right at her heels in 25th place. Pipsa Palatsi placed 37th, a tremendous improvement over her 13th place performance in the JV NEPSTA race last year. Katie Tantillo ran a gutsy race to complete the Middlesex varsity seven.

The Middlesex JV squad had their best showing of the season, placing third in the JV Championship race. Allison Luo continued her winning streak, taking first place after finishing first place in the JV ISL race the previous Friday. Caroline Ripsteen and Sue Hayashi also took home top-20 ribbons, placing 14th and 17th respectively. Marvelous Ugwu was just seven seconds away from a top twenty finish, running a fantastic race to place 20th. Jessica Wu, Celine Ding, Eva Zhao, Charlotte Friedmann, Kassie Schaeberle, and Lucy Wu also ran strong races for Middlesex.
