Boys' Varsity Soccer Battles Brooks to a 0-0 Draw

10/9/2024 11:36:00 AM

Two of the top teams in NEPSAC Class B battled in North Andover to an epic 0-0 draw.  The lack of goals did not come without a lack of excitement, however,  The first half was high energy, as both sides traded periods of possession and momentum.  The best first half chance for Brooks fell to Tristan Warner, whose low shot from outside of the penalty area was tipped off of the post and out for a corner by Middlesex's Noah Browne.  Brooks's direct and aerial style of play resulted in numerous corner kicks throughout the match, but the Middlesex back line and keeper Browne were up to the challenge.  The second half was an intense and even affair, with some chances for both teams that the keepers did well to handle.  In the dying moments of the match, Adriano Valmora received the ball 25 yards from goal and found space to unleash a knuckling shot that Brooks keeper Zach Amato kept out but had to charge out to cut off the rebound.  Browne got low to the right post to save a headed effort from a Brooks corner kick.  In the end, the draw was a fair result and both teams left the field with respect for their opponent.  Kariya and Warner were dangerous for Brooks, while Sullivan and Benayoud stood out defensively.  For Middlesex, Bear Tibbitt was immense in the back as well as Quin Falvey, while Olly Mylon and Adriano Valmora posed the greatest threat to the Brooks net.  It was a great matchup of two quality teams with opposing styles of play in the ISL.
