Middlesex Girls' Soccer traveled down to Pomfret on Friday to take on the Griffins on their home field. From the get go, the girls showed that they had come ready to play, and applied pressure on Pomfret all over the field. The Zebras struck first just six minutes into the contest as they gained possession on the left side, strung a few passes together, and Maya Lloyd '25 found Maeve Kearney '27 in the box for Maeve's first career goal! A great start to the game. Pomfret would not relent as they came and scored on a great free kick to knot the score at 1, which stood as the game reached halftime.Â
Middlesex turned up the heat, and regained the lead in the first minute of play in the second half. Ashwini Menon '25 finished off a great cross by captain Ally Haines '24 to make it 2-1. The Zebras maintained great pressure on Pomfret, keeping the ball on their half of the field for much of the second half, and creating great opportunities. They pushed the lead to two as Menon tallied her second of the match, with the assist this time coming from Lloyd. This closed out the scoring, and the Zebras played hard to the final whistle. A great result to finish the first week of the season.
MXGVS returns to Chapel Field to take on Phillips Andover on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30pm.
