The Middlesex Girls' Soccer team opened their 2023 campaign with home game against Dexter-Southfield. Due to the rainy the weather, the game was shifted up to Landry Field, which provided a fast, slick playing surface for the contest. The Zebras managed Dexter's aggressive start, as the backline thwarted multiple attacks in the opening minutes. As the game settled, Middlesex was able to generate a couple counter-attack opportunities, while continuing to keep D-S at bay. Eventually Dexter broke through with the first goal, a shot from the top of the box that found the upper right corner. Middlesex bounced back and battled hard until the halftime whistle.
Middlesex hoped to shift the momentum in the second half, but Dexter-Southfield had other ideas as they quickly gained possession after kickoff, came down the left side and cashed in their second goal of the game. Not the opening to the half that Middlesex had envisioned, yet the girls persevered, and the last half hour of the match proved to be a back and forth affair. The end result was a 2-0 win for Dexter-Southfield.
The Zebras get right back at with a trip down to Pomfret on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm.
