On a beautiful spring day Tuesday, MXGolf traveled to Pine Brook Country Club in Weston to take on host Rivers School. This is a new course for Rivers and it proved to be a good challenge for both teams. The greens had been punched and were top dressed which made putting a tad difficult - but the layout of the course and the wind provided a good test of the players' skills. Playing at #1 sophomore Lucy Wang had a comfortable lead throughout the match and was able to finish her opponent off on the 8th hole and posted a 2 and 1 victory. At #2 senior captain Andrew Cao rallied from an early hole to better his opponent 2 and 1 on the 8th hole as well. The round of the day was played by #3 junior Andrew Yang, who in route to shooting a one under par 34, bested his opponent 5 and 4. The match of the day was played by MX #4 golfer senior Chase Tilson. Chase was down early in the match but was able to rally and square his match heading into the 7th hole. He hit a bomb of a drive on 7 but was faced with some tree trouble and had to run his chip under a number of branches. Chase, up for the challenge, was able to get up and down for a par and a one hole advantage over the River's player. He then went on to win the match on the 8th hole and posted a 2 and 1 victory. Playing at #5 Andrew Almeida ran into a strong player and fell 4 and 3. Playing in their first matches at #6 and #7, George Leness and Ellie McCalmon both lost 3 and 1 on the 8th hole. In a non-scoring match, James Webb was able to earn a halve in his match. On Wednesday the team will travel to Wollaston Country Club to take on host Thayer along with St. Sebastian's in our first tri-match of the year.
